British Science Week 2025
In March, we celebrated British Science Week across school. All year groups planned and conducted their own investigations. In Year 1, the children had lots of fun exploring how things dissolve in water and were able to conclude why we should only flush toilet paper down the toilet and nothing else! In Year 4, the children looked at how global warming affects glaciers. Year 5 had lots of fun investigating how the size of an asteroid affects the size of the crater and in Year 6 children used their knowledge of the theory of evolution to investigate how different finches were able to eat different foods due to the size of their beaks.
We were also lucky enough to have visits from a range of people who work in science-related industries! Year 5 and 6 learnt all about how the flu vaccine is created, whilst Year 1 listened to a parent talk about how science is used to create aeroplanes at Airbus.
Celebrating British Science Week allowed us to really promote science across school and gave all children the opportunity to learn about science outside of their normal science lessons.
At Bedford Drive Primary School, we have constructed an ambitious Science curriculum, which follows the content of the EYFS statutory framework and the National Curriculum.
